‘Don’t kill the voiceless’: Sonam Bajwa urges Punjab CM to rethink stray dog drive
PTC Web Desk: Actor Sonam Bajwa has made an emotional appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the handling of stray dogs in the state, urging the government to adopt humane and sustainable measures instead of actions that could harm animals.
Punjab government will strictly follow in letter and spirit the Supreme Court order given on 19th May 2026. As per the SC orders, we will:
- Remove stray dogs from all high footfall public spaces so that children, senior citizens and families can move freely without fearing for… — Bhagwant Mann (@BhagwantMann) May 22, 2026
In a strongly worded note shared on social media, Sonam Bajwa clarified that the Supreme Court has not ordered the elimination or mistreatment of stray dogs. According to her post, the court only directed authorities to remove dogs from sensitive areas while ensuring sterilisation, vaccination and proper shelter facilities.
Questioning the government’s preparedness, the actress asked whether adequate infrastructure and shelter homes were arranged before launching any large-scale campaign involving stray animals. She stressed that while public safety remains important, the issue cannot be resolved through cruelty or by putting helpless animals at risk.
“We are judged as a society by how we treat the voiceless,” Sonam wrote, while appealing to the state government to reconsider its strategy.
The actress also suggested practical solutions, including collaboration with animal welfare NGOs, veterinarians and rescue experts to create a more humane management system for stray animals. She further called for the development of proper shelters and long-term rehabilitation plans.
Her post has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users supporting stricter animal welfare measures while others raised concerns about rising stray dog attacks.
On the work front, Sonam Bajwa was recently seen in the Punjabi film 'Pitt Siyappa' and also featured in 'Border 2'.
