Ruckus in parliament over deportation of illegal immigrants from US; houses adjourned

PTC News Desk: Proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 12 noon on Thursday after opposition launched massive protest over deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States. 


The opposition MPs demanded a discussion on the deportation of 104 Indian nationals and sought a statement from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Meanwhile, EAM Dr S Jaishankar is expected to make a statement in Parliament at 2 pm today over the issue of deportation of  illegal Indian immigrants from the US.

Earlier, Congress MP KC Venugopal moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to discuss the issue. The motion urged Centre to lay out diplomatic steps being taken to engage with the Donald Trump administration. MPs of the opposition hold a protest outside the parliament over the issue of deportation of alleged illegal Indian immigrants from the US

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla and a few other leaders can be seen being handcuffed to mark their protest alleging that Indian citizens were subjected to inhuman treatment while being deported from the US.

Earlier on Wednesday, a military aircraft carrying 104 Indian nationals including 33 Punjabis arrived in Amritsar from the United States. Family members of the illegal immigrants from Punjab have claimed that they were deceived by the agents who manipulated them intro taking dunkey route while caiming that this is the legal route.

The kins have demanded stringent action against the agents as they said that they took loans at huge interests and sold whatever little they have only to facilitate the travel to US. With the unprecedented return the furture of these deportees now hangs in balance.
