Shaktikanta Das, former RBI Governor, appointed Principal Secretary to PM Modi
PTC Web Desk: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been named the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per an official government notification issued on Saturday. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) confirmed that Shaktikanta Das' tenure will be co-terminus with PM Modi's term or until further orders.
Meanwhile, the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam has been extended for one year, starting from February 24, 2025. The 1987-batch IAS officer, who took charge as NITI Aayog’s CEO in February 2023, was initially appointed for a two-year term.
Shaktikanta Das, who served as RBI Governor from December 2018 to 2024, has over four decades of experience in governance, covering finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure. He played a key role in India’s financial policy-making and led the RBI’s response during the CovidD-19 pandemic, introducing a range of monetary, liquidity, and regulatory measures to support economic recovery and financial stability.
