PTC News Desk: Shein makes a comeback in India as Reliance re-launches Chinese fast fashion app.
Five years after ban as a part of crackdown, China's fast fashion company Shein has been re-launched in India through a deal it had negotiated with Reliance Retail.
The Indian government's decision left people anxious over the pending orders. with the app welcoming them with a pop-up: "we hope to resume services soon". Five years later, Shein, the fashion OG, is back!
"We're shipping in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. Pan-India shipping very soon," a message on the app read.
Shein along with 58 other Chinese applications including TikTok, Weibo, PUBG, WeChat by were banned by Indian government amin alarming concerns over aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of citizens. The Ministry of Electronics and IT said that the decision was taken “upon receiving credible inputs that such Apps pose threat to sovereignty and integrity of India.”
After lifting the ban the app can operation in India and can run its operation with full capacity. The Chinese fast fashion app has also assured authorities that the company would source goods from India for its global operations.
As soon as the app returned to India with its operations, it has announced free shipping on all orders and easy returns. The app is now available as 'SHEIN India Fast Fashion' on Apple app store and Google play store. The app is now registered under Reliance Retail Private.
