Shraddha murder case: Court restrains news channel from using portions of chargesheet for 3 days

New Delhi, April 17: A Delhi court on Monday restrained a news channel from using any material related to the Shraddha murder case for the next three days.

The case has been scheduled for further consideration on April 20.

Meanwhile, the court has advised Delhi Police to seek a higher court's intervention in order to prevent all channels from using the material that is part of the case's charge sheet. Manisha Khurana Kakkar, an Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ), was hearing an application filed on behalf of the Delhi Police seeking a directive prohibiting a news channel and other media outlets from broadcasting the materials contained in the case's charge sheet.

"...Instructions to state on behalf of news channel.... that the said channel shall not telecast/publish/disseminate the contents of the psychological assessment and voice layer test, narco analysis test and conversation recorded on Dr Practo App for the next three days, till April 20, " it stated.

The Court further added that Delhi Police is at liberty to approach the constitutional or higher court for exercising their remedy.

On April 10, the Saket court restrained a media house from publishing/printing and disseminating the content of the charge sheet including digital evidence in the Shraddha murder case. The court also issued notice to the channel.

The Delhi Police approached the court based on credible information that one of the media outlets had accessed the audio-video evidence linked to the Narco and Practo app and was planning to disseminate it in a special programme.
