Punjab Women's Panel Chairperson post to remain vacant, HC rules out new appointment till further order

Chandigarh, April 17: In a development to the case pertaining to Manisha Gulati's removal as Punjab Women Commission chairperson, the High Court has ruled that no new appointment will be made to the post till further orders.

The Court further stated that the Punjab government can continue the appointment process but cannot make new appointments for the time being.


Notably, a single-Judge bench had dismissed a plea from former State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati challenging Punjab Government's decision. She was removed from the post on March 7.

A two-judge bench led by Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha and Justice Arun Palli issued a notice to the government and sought a response to the matter.

Following the removal of Manisha Gulati, the government sought applications for appointment to the top post.
