Surat Diamond Bourse: 8 things you must know about world's largest corporate office

Surat Diamond Bourse: The World's largest corporate office hub 'Surat Diamond Bourse' is all set for inauguration on Sunday.  The Surat Diamond Bourse, built on 35.54 acres of land at a cost of Rs 3400 crore, is set to become a global centre of rough and polished diamond trading.

Facts you must know about world's largest corporate office

1) Surat Diamond Bourse is made up of nine interconnected buildings connected by a 24-foot-wide spine corridor. Each of these structures has 15 storeys and a ground floor.

2) The Diamond Bourse, which houses over 4,500 interconnected offices, is the world's largest interconnected building.  The office complex is larger than the Pentagon and houses the country's largest customs clearance facility.

3) Each office is between 300 and 75,000 square feet. In addition, the bourse has a 2 million square foot parking area in its basement. This building can accommodate 4,200 traders from 175 countries who will come to Surat to buy polished diamonds.

4) The facility will have highly secured campus security checkpoints at all entrances and exits, as well as CCTV surveillance, control rooms, public announcement systems, and under-car scanners at entry gates.

5) Around 1.5 lakh people will be employed by the trading facility, which will provide diamond buyers from all over the world with a global trading platform in Surat.

6) The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has awarded the Surat Diamond Bourse a platinum rating. The shape of the central spine directs wind through the structure, while radiant cooling reduces indoor temperatures by circulating chilled water beneath the floors.

7) The landscape courts, which span nearly 200 feet wide and 300 feet long, are designed on the concept of "Panchtatva" -- the five elements of air, water, fire, earth, and sky.

8) Safe deposit vaults, conference halls, multi-purpose halls, restaurants, banks, customs clearance houses, convention centres, exhibition centres, training centres, entertainment areas, restaurants, and a club, as well as security plans, are available at the Surat Diamond Bourse.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to a media report on 'X' claiming that the Surat Diamond Bourse had surpassed the Pentagon as the world's largest office building for the last 80 years.

"Surat Diamond Bourse showcases the dynamism and growth of Surat's diamond industry. It is also a testament to India's entrepreneurial spirit. It will serve as a hub for trade, innovation and collaboration, further boosting our economy and creating employment opportunities."
