Terrorist-Gangster Nexus: NIA conducts extensive searches in Punjab, Haryana among 30 locations

New Delhi, March 12: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 30 locations across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chandigarh as part of an ongoing investigation into the terrorist-gangster nexus case. The extensive raids, carried out in collaboration with state police forces, targeted locations linked to suspects identified during previous interrogations.

"The NIA is conducting extensive searches at 30 locations across four states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and UT of Chandigarh in the Terrorist-Gangster nexus case," stated the NIA. The operation, initiated based on specific inputs, is focused on gathering crucial evidence related to the case.

This follows the NIA's recent move on January 6, where the agency took significant steps to dismantle the terrorist-gangster-drug smuggler nexus by attaching four properties owned by members of the organised crime syndicate led by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. These properties, identified as 'proceeds of terrorism,' were involved in planning terror conspiracies and executing serious crimes.

The NIA had previously registered a case against Lawrence Bishnoi's organised crime syndicate in August 2022. The investigation revealed the syndicate's widespread criminal networks across multiple states, engaging in sensational crimes, including the murders of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, religious and social leaders like Pardeep Kumar, and large-scale extortions.

Further findings from the NIA investigations pointed to the involvement of foreign elements, including those in Pakistan and Canada, as well as leaders of organised terror syndicates operating from prisons across India. To disrupt and dismantle these networks and their support infrastructure, the NIA has adopted targeted strategies, including the attachment and seizure of properties identified as 'proceeds of terrorism.'
