'Ticketless passengers stormed station': Eye witnesses recount harrowing details of stampede which claimed 18 lives

While other recounted that many ticketless passengers in a bid to board train stormed the railway station. Many unreserved passengers boarded the train without ticket and said that they will get one after the ticket superintendent comes.

'Ticketless passengers stormed station': Eye witnesses recount harrowing details of stampede which claimed 18 lives

PTC News Desk: Eye witnesses have shared chilling details of the stampede triggered by overwhelming rush at New Delhi railway station. According to the reports, stampede occurred at staircase. 


"We were descending the staircase and the platform in front of us looked normal and no sign of chaos. Suddenly, a crowd rush happened on the staircase and hordes of people started storming down. My mother and many women fell, while others trampled on them and passed,” one of the eyewitness said.

While other recounted that many ticketless passengers in a bid to board train stormed the railway station. Many unreserved passengers boarded the train without ticket and said that they will get one after the ticket superintendent comes. 

Everyone said they stormed inside with the crowd rush and no one stopped or checked them.

Another eyewitness recounted the horror, saying that the crowd was beyond control. People from the administration and even NDRF personnel were there, but when the crowd exceeded the limit, it was impossible to manage them.

"The crowd was beyond control, people were gathered at the foot over bridge... Such a huge crowd wasn't expected. I have never seen such a massive crowd at the railway station, even during festivals. People from the administration and even NDRF personnel were there, but when the crowd exceeded the limit, it wasn't possible to control them," he said.
