UP police constable's wife dies by suicide, alleges harassment by in-laws in video
PTC News Desk: The wife of a police constable in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly died by suicide following alleged harassment by her in-laws. Her husband is posted at the Bakshi Ka Talab police station.
Authorities have obtained a video recorded by her before the incident, in which she described the mistreatment she faced.
In the video, Saumya Kashyap claimed that her in-laws, including her brother-in-law and husband, were trying to drive her away so her husband could marry someone else.
The police said they have notified the woman’s family, who have left their home in Mainpuri to come to Lucknow.
Police said, “On Sunday, it was learnt through an Instagram video that Saumya Kashyap committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in the house. Saumya is the wife of constable Anurag Singh, who is currently posted in Eagle Mobile at Bakshi Ka Talab station.”
“On receipt of their complaint, a case will be registered and necessary action will be taken,” the statement said.
In the video, a tearful Saumya is seen describing the abuse she endured from her in-laws. She accused her husband of assaulting her and alleged that her brother-in-law had issued death threats. Saumya also claimed that a lawyer had advised her husband to kill her, assuring him of legal protection afterward.
