Uttar Pradesh: IPS officer's 91-year-old mother found dead at home, jewellery missing; robbery suspected
PTC News Desk: The 91-year-old mother of IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra was found dead at her home in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district. The investigation also revealed that the jewellery she used to wear in routine was also missing and blood was coming out from her mouth, prompting police to investigate the possibility of murder.
The decease has been identified as Indrawati, 91, who was living alone after death of her husband, a former government inter college principal.
A domestic help discovered her body and alerted neighbours.
Mishra, who is currently posted in Lucknow, reached the village around 3 pm and filed a complaint alleging murder and robbery against unidentified persons.
Jewellery missing
Police found that a gold chain, nose pin, earrings and anklets were missing from the house, while other belongings appeared untouched. The family suspects that thieves entered the house on Saturday night, killed Indrawati and escaped with her jewellery.
The jewellery that the 91-year-old woman regularly wore was found missing after her death. Police suspect that someone familiar with the family or the house may have information about the missing valuables. Family members are also being questioned as part of the investigation.
IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra has filed a complaint at the Malipur police station regarding the alleged theft.
Although there were no visible injury marks on Indrawati's body, blood was reportedly coming from her mouth, raising suspicions of foul play. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The report will help establish whether she died of a heart attack, another medical condition or an assault. Police are also investigating what happened inside the house before the woman was found dead.
