Uttar Pradesh: Tensions in Fatehpur as Hindu group vandalises tomb, claims it was ancient temple

PTC Web Desk:  A historic tomb in Fatehpur’s Sadar tehsil, Uttar Pradesh, has become the centre of a communal dispute after members of a Hindu organisation vandalised parts of the site on Monday, alleging it was originally a centuries-old temple.

The incident occurred at the mausoleum of Nawab Abdus Samad, where the group claimed the structure was once dedicated to Thakur ji and Lord Shiva. They pointed to carvings of a lotus and a trident found inside as evidence of its temple origins.

Tensions flared after the district president of the BJP publicly supported the claim, describing the site as a thousand-year-old shrine that had been altered over time. The group has also announced plans to conduct a puja at the disputed location, raising concerns of further unrest.

In response, the district administration has deployed heavy police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) forces to maintain order. Barricades have been set up around the site to prevent gatherings.

According to official records, the land — listed as Khasra number 753 — is classified as “National Property Maqbara Mangi,” marking it as a protected monument. However, the recent religious assertions have intensified community tensions, prompting the authorities to remain on high alert.
