Vice President Dhankhar furious after Trinamool MP mimics him, Rahul Gandhi films it

PTC News Desk: During a protest by opposition parties on Tuesday, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee was seen mimicking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

While Kalyan Banerjee imitated Jagdeep Dhankar in the presence of several other MPs, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi filmed the incident, infuriating the BJP.

As he acted out the House proceedings in an impromptu skit, Kalyan Banerjee can be heard saying, "my spine is so straight, I'm so tall."

Opposition MPs have been protesting the suspension of 141 lawmakers over security breach in parliament. MPs held mock House proceedings in the new parliament building's Makar Dwar.

The incident was described as "ridiculous and unacceptable" by Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Dhankhar, referring to Rahul Gandhi, said as the House reconvened at 12 noon after being adjourned, "Office of Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Office of Speaker is very different. Political parties will have their cross currents, they will have exchanges, but imagine a senior leader of your party, video graphing another member of another party."

"Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable," he stated.

The BJP, which shared the video, condemned both Banerjee and Gandhi for mocking the vice president.

"If the country was wondering why opposition MPs were suspended, here is the reason. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mocked the Honourable Vice President, while Rahul Gandhi lustily cheered him on. One can imagine how reckless and violative they have been of the House!," it added.

The opposition MPs have demanded a statement on the security breach from Home Minister Amit Shah. Dhankhar had previously called the MP's actions an "absolute transgression" of the rules.

According to Delhi police, the parliament security breach was meticulously planned over months by six people. According to investigators, the goal of the unprecedented "smoke protest" was to draw attention to the growing unemployment, plight of farmers, and the situation in Manipur.

The group wanted a debate on these issues in parliament and thought it would be a flashy way to get people's attention. The group was a part of the "Fans of Bhagat Singh" Facebook page.

Following the massive breach, Parliament tightened security protocols, temporarily prohibiting visitors and restricting non-essential personnel, including the media.
