Who is Champai Soren? Know all about next Jharkhand CM, famous as 'Jharkhand Tiger'
PTC News Desk: Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday, prompting his resignation. Champai Soren, a senior cabinet minister in the JMM government, was elected as the legislative party's leader and nominated for the position of Chief Minister.
MLAs who support the Soren government signed two blank papers last night, one bearing the names of Hemant's wife Kalpana Soren and the other Champai Soren. Champai Soren's name has now been finalised for the CM position, following his election as legislative party leader.

Champai Soren is the eldest son of Simal Soren, a farmer from Jilinggoda village in Saraikela-Kharsawan district. Champai Soren, like his father, has worked on his farms. He attended a government school until he reached the tenth grade.
He married young and had four sons and three daughters.

When demand for a separate state of Jharkhand arose in the late 1990s, Champai and Shibu Soren actively participated in the Jharkhand movement, quickly becoming known as the 'Jharkhand Tiger.' Champai Soren then began his political career as an independent MLA in a by-election for his Saraikela seat. He eventually joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Champai Soren was appointed Cabinet Minister in Arjun Munda's BJP-led government. During this time, he served in key ministries. Champai worked as a minister from September 11, 2010 to January 18, 2013. Following that, President's rule was imposed, and Champai Soren was appointed Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Transport in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha government, led by Hemant Soren.
