Woman alleges husband assaulted during honeymoon over menstruation, FIR registered
PTC News Desk: A woman from Uttar Pradesh has alleged she was thrashed and choked by her husband three years ago during the couple's honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after she got her period.
However a case has been registered three years after the incident after mediation efforts failed between the families of the husband and the wife.
The FIR also mentions the woman's mother-in-law and sister-in-law in connection with related allegations of mental abuse.
The woman's family also alleged that several requests to lodge a complaint at local police stations were initially ignored. A woman from Gorakhpur has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and physical and mental abuse after her marriage in 2023.
According to her complaint, she married Delhi resident Nikhil Mishra on May 30, 2023. She alleged that before the wedding, her in-laws demanded branded items and that her family gave around Rs 20 lakh in cash, a car and other gifts worth about Rs 40 lakh.
The woman claimed that after the marriage, her in-laws taunted and humiliated her over the dowry. About a month later, the couple went to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for their honeymoon.
During the trip, she got her period and suffered severe stomach pain and heavy bleeding. She alleged that her husband became angry, accused her of ruining his mood and then slapped, kicked and punched her. She also claimed that he tried to strangle her. According to her, hotel staff heard her screams and intervened to rescue her.
After returning to Delhi, she said she told her mother-in-law and sister-in-law about the incident, but instead of supporting her, they allegedly subjected her to further mental harassment.
The woman alleged that her husband later called her father and asked him to take her back to Gorakhpur, saying that he no longer wanted to live with her. She claimed that she was thrown out of her marital home on July 14, 2023, around 45 days after the wedding.
She also alleged that when her father went to Delhi to resolve the matter, he too was insulted by her in-laws. The woman further claimed that the dowry items were not returned and that her husband continued to send her threatening messages.
