Chandigarh, September 26: Former Punjab Congress chief and minister leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is currently in Patiala jail after he was sentenced by the Supreme Court in a 34-year-old case of road rage, started ‘maun vrat’ (fasting for silence) on Monday. Taking to Sidhu’s official Twitter account, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu said, “My husband will observe silence during the Navaratri and will meet visitors after the 5th of October.” Earlier, the Supreme Court on awarded a one-year jail term to former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu in a 1988 road rage case. Navjot Singh was awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment. The Court allowed the review petition preferred by the family of victim Gurnam Singh against its 2018 Supreme Court verdict that had reduced the sentence of Navjot Singh Sidhu to Rs 1000 from 3 years imprisonment in the case.
