Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: Congress' Om Parkash Soni will contest upcoming Punjab assembly elections from the Amritsar Central constituency. He is a Cabinet Minister in the government of Punjab and was sworn as Deputy CM on 20 September 2021. He was one of the 42 INC MLAs who submitted their resignation in protest to the Supreme Court ruling Punjab's termination of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) water canal unconstitutional. In March 2017, he was elected from Amritsar Central assembly constituency by defeating Tarun Chugh of BJP with a margin of 21,116 votes.
