BJP alleges Rahul Gandhi offered dog biscuit; Himanta Sarma reacts

PTC News Desk: The ongoing political feud between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has escalated as Sarma launched a fresh attack, accusing Rahul Gandhi of giving a dog's biscuit to a supporter in a viral video.

The controversial video, posted by Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on its social media handle, captured a moment during Rahul Gandhi's yatra in Jharkhand where he interacted with a puppy. In the footage, Gandhi is seen petting the dog and then requesting a packet of biscuits, which he later offers to the puppy.

As Gandhi engaged with his supporters for conversations and selfies, the video posted by Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra did not show him handing the dog biscuit to any supporter. However, in a separate video shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gandhi is seemingly giving the uneaten biscuit to a man, leading to allegations from the BJP that the Congress leader mistreated his supporters.

Formerly associated with the Congress, Himanta Biswa Sarma took the opportunity to criticize Rahul Gandhi, asserting that neither he nor his family could make him "eat the biscuit." Sarma, proud of his Assamese and Indian identity, emphasized his refusal to comply and highlighted his resignation from the Congress.

Sarma has frequently recounted a previous incident where he claimed that during a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the latter's pet dog, Pidi, was given biscuits from a plate, which were then extended to the Congress leaders present. This anecdote has been used by the Assam Chief Minister to question Rahul Gandhi's dedication to party matters and has been cited as one of the reasons for Sarma's departure from the Congress. The political tension between the two leaders continues to escalate with each such incident.
