Chhattisgarh poll: Congress vows Rs 15,000 annually to women in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, November 12: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Sunday that if the Congress continues to hold power in Chhattisgarh, women in the state will receive an annual financial assistance of Rs 15,000. This proclamation, made ahead of the second phase of Chhattisgarh elections scheduled for November 17, is perceived as a response to the opposition BJP's commitment in its poll manifesto to provide Rs 12,000 per year to married women.

"On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, with the blessings of Maa Lakshmi ji and Chhattisgarh Mahtari, an important decision has been taken for women empowerment," stated Mr. Baghel during a press conference in Raipur.

Under the "Chhattisgarh Gruha Lakshmi Yojana,'' women in the state will receive an annual assistance of Rs 15,000 directly deposited into their bank accounts once the Congress government is re-elected in Chhattisgarh, he added.

Mr. Baghel extended Diwali wishes to the people of the state. The first phase of polling for 20 out of the total 90 assembly seats in the state took place on November 7, while the remaining 70 seats are set for voting on November 17.
