Election Commission issues notice to KCR on foul language used against Congress leaders

PTC News Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Wednesday, demanding an explanation for his alleged derogatory remarks about Congress leaders during a press conference in Siricilla on April 5.

The Commission stated that KCR has violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the Commission's advisory/instructions, and requested an explanation by 11 a.m. on Thursday.

“In the event of no response from your side within the stipulated time, it will be presumed that you have nothing to say in the matter and the Election Commission will take appropriate action or decision in the matter without making any further reference to you," said  Election Commission principal secretary Avinash Kumar, in a letter to KCR.

Kumar stated that the Commission received a complaint from Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee senior vice-president G Niranjan on April 6 alleging that KCR had made "vulgar, derogatory, and objectionable" remarks about Congress leaders.

On April 9, the Commission wrote to the state's chief electoral officer (CEO), requesting a factual report. As a result, the CEO submitted the report on April 10, along with the report from the district election officer for Rajanna Siricilla district.

According to Kumar, the CEO's factual report to the Commission revealed that KCR used foul language against Congress leaders.

The report also mentioned KCR threatening Congress leaders.

According to the model code of conduct, criticism of other political parties should be limited to their policies and programmes, as well as their past record and work, and leaders should refrain from making comments about their private lives that are unrelated to their public activities.
