Kejriwal refuses ED summons again, cites 'lack of justification'

New Delhi, January 3: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has once again chosen not to attend the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate related to the Delhi excise policy case, marking the third consecutive instance. In a letter addressed to the Enforcement Directorate, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the agency failed to provide a valid rationale or justification for the issuance of these summons.

Accusing the Enforcement Directorate of maintaining unnecessary secrecy and employing arbitrary actions in teh Delhi excise policy case, Arvind Kejriwal urged the agency to respond to his previous communications and clarify the precise intentions, extent, and nature of the ongoing inquiry. He described the summons as "motivated" and reflective of a fishing expedition rather than a focused investigation.

Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the ED's repetitive issuance of identical summons without addressing his earlier responses in November 2023 and December 2023. Consequently, he expressed his assumption that the agency lacked valid grounds for summoning him.

Critically addressing the Enforcement Directorate's non-disclosure and unresponsive approach, Kejriwal argued that such conduct fails to align with legal principles of fairness and justice. He alleged that this approach resembled taking on the roles of judge, jury, and executioner simultaneously, which he deemed unacceptable in a country governed by the rule of law.

Besides, Kejriwal informed the agency about the upcoming elections for three Rajya Sabha seats in Delhi on January 19, where, as the Aam Aadmi Party's convenor, his involvement would demand significant time leading up to the polls. Moreover, he highlighted his commitments for Republic Day celebrations, further underscoring his busy schedule.

Kejriwal urged the Enforcement Directorate to address and respond to the objections he had previously raised, seeking clarity and justification for their repeated summons.
