Lok Sabha elections 2024: SAD's Harsimrat Kaur Badal to contest from Bathinda, Mohinder Singh Kaypee from Jalandhar

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Within a few minutes of joining the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), former Congress leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee was named party candidate from Jalandhar in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections 2024. SAD president Sukhkbir Singh Badal also named Harsimrat Kaur Badal as the party candidate from Bathinda.

The Shiromani Akali Dal announced the candidature of Ranjit  Singh Dhillon from Ludhiana; Nardev Singh Bobby Mann from Ferozepur, Hardeep Singh Saini Buttrela from Chandigarh and Sohan Singh Thandal from Hoshiarpur.


Earlier on April 14, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had announced its first list of seven Lok Sabha candidates for Punjab. It fielded Prem Singh Chandumajra from Anandpur Sahib and Daljit Singh Cheema from Gurdaspur. The SAD named former minister Anil Joshi from Amritsar, former MLAs NK Sharma and Iqbal Singh Jhunda from Patiala and Sangrur , respectively, Bikramjit Singh Khalsa from Fatehgarh Sahib and Rajwinder Singh from Faridkot. 

The candidate from Khadoor Sahib, which is known as mini Punjab, is yet to be announced.

For the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, the polling will be held in the last round of the seven-phase elections on June 1. For the first time since 1996, the Shiromani Akali Dal will be fighting lone . It severed ties with the NDA in 2020.
