Bhopal, October 15: The Congress has chosen popular actor Vikram Mastal to go head-to-head with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the upcoming assembly elections. Vikram Mastal is renowned for his portrayal of Hanuman in Anand Sagar's 2008 television series Ramayana. The party has recently revealed its first list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana assembly elections.

In Madhya Pradesh, the party is fielding former Chief Minister and PCC Chief Kamal Nath, who will contest from his Chhindwara assembly constituency. Jaivardhan Singh, son of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, has been nominated for the Raghogarh seat. He previously served as a minister in the Kamal Nath government.

Vikram Mastal is set to challenge Mr. Chouhan in the Budhni constituency, making for an interesting contest. Other notable candidates in the list include Vijay Laxmi Sadho, a former Rajya Sabha member and state minister, who will contest from the Maheshwar-SC assembly seat. Former cabinet minister Jitu Patwari has been nominated for the Rau assembly constituency.

The candidate list comprises 47 candidates from the general category, 39 from the OBC category, 30 from the ST category, 22 from the SC category, one Muslim candidate, and 19 women candidates. Among them, 65 candidates are below the age of 50.

The BJP has already unveiled candidates for over half of the assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, revealing a list of 136 out of 230 seats. Madhya Pradesh's assembly elections are scheduled for November 17, with results expected to be announced on December 3.

The Congress has also released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, including four former BJP leaders. These former BJP members are Avdhesh Nayak (Datia), Rao Yadvendra Singh (Mungaoli), ex-BJP MP Bodh Singh Bhagat (Katangi), and Neeraj Sharma (Surkhi). Notably, three sitting MLAs, including former Assembly speaker NP Prajapati, have been denied tickets. The upcoming elections in these states promise to be competitive and closely watched by political observers.
