Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal propose Mallikarjun Kharge as INDIA PM face
PTC News Desk: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as the INDIA bloc's Prime Ministerial candidate on Tuesday.
According to sources, Banerjee made the proposal at an Opposition bloc meeting. The plan was widely supported because Kharge is a prominent Dalit face in the Opposition.
According to sources, the plan was applauded by twelve of the participating parties. Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is known for being out of step with the Congress, backed the idea.
INDIA bloc held a crucial meeting on Tuesday in the national capital Delhi, where top leaders discussed their future plans for taking on the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) unitedly in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
According to sources, Kharge, however, poured cold water on the plan with a polite refusal. He stated that he only wants to work for the oppressed.
The ruling BJP has slammed the Opposition for running a candidate against Ramnath Kovind and Droupadi Murmu, both members of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, in the Presidential election.
