Manipur Violence: Anurag Thakur appeals to opposition for peaceful Parliament discussion

New Delhi, July 31: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur urged opposition parties not to disrupt peace in Manipur and instead engage in discussions within Parliament. He emphasized the government's willingness to address the Manipur situation and questioned the opposition's reasons for avoiding dialogue.

Thakur also challenged Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, to speak up about the violence in West Bengal, his represented constituency. He questioned whether Chowdhury would have the courage to expose the ongoing violence in the TMC-ruled state.

Thakur questioned the Congress and Communist parties' intentions in Bengal, asking if they had given up on the state due to the Mamata Banerjee-led government's heavy-handedness.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spent four days in Manipur, and Thakur assured that necessary steps were being taken to restore peace in the region. Despite the government's efforts, Thakur accused the opposition of seeking to provoke disturbances during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, which has been disrupted in the first two weeks due to the Manipur issue.

Regarding the no-confidence motion, Thakur confirmed that the government would address it in Lok Sabha once the Speaker schedules a discussion. He recalled a similar motion brought in 2018, which resulted in a significant defeat for the opposition, and expressed confidence in a similar outcome this time.
