Parliament Winter Session: Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury among 33 opposition members suspended from Lok Sabha
Parliament Winter Session: At least 30 Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) faced suspension from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Winter Session due to their protest inside the chamber. Their demand was for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the House regarding the recent significant security breach in Parliament.
This recent wave of suspension follows the earlier suspension of 13 Opposition MPs who had similarly demanded a statement from the Home Minister last week.
Additionally, three more MPs have been suspended temporarily pending a report from the Privileges Committee. Consequently, a total of 46 MPs have been suspended, with 43 of them facing suspension for seeking the Home Minister's statement regarding the security breach.
Among those suspended are prominent figures such as Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress party's leader in Lok Sabha, and Gaurav Gogoi, the party's deputy leader in the House. The list also includes Trinamool MPs Kalyan Banerjee, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Saugata Ray, and Satabdi Roy, along with DMK members A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran.
Taking to mediapersons on his suspension from the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "All leaders, including me, have been suspended. We have been demanding for days to reinstate our MPs who were suspended earlier and that the Home Minister come to the House and give a statement on the recent security breach. He gives statements to the TV every day and he can speak a little in the Parliament too regarding what is being done by the Government for the security of the Parliament...Today's Government has reached the heights of tyranny...We wanted discussion..."
