Rahul Gandhi’s fiery speech in Lok Sabha: Unemployment failure of both UPA and NDA, says Congress leader | Key takeaways

PTC Web Desk: On the third day of the Budget Session in the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi delivered a sharp and analytical speech, addressing key issues such as unemployment, manufacturing decline, and electoral irregularities. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Make in India" initiative while highlighting its shortcomings.

Here are the six key takeaways from Rahul Gandhi’s speech:

Unemployment: A failure of both UPA and NDA

Rahul Gandhi candidly admitted that neither the Congress-led UPA government nor the BJP-led NDA government could effectively address the growing unemployment crisis in India. "Unemployment remains a significant challenge. The UPA could not solve it in 10 years, and neither has the current government in its decade-long rule," he stated.

Acknowledging ‘Make in India’ but calling it a failure

Rahul Gandhi acknowledged PM Modi’s "Make in India" initiative as a well-intended move but criticised its execution. He pointed out that the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP has declined from 15.3% in 2014 to 12.6% today—its lowest in 60 years. "The Prime Minister tried, but he failed," he remarked, emphasising the need for stronger policy measures to boost domestic manufacturing.

Allegations of voter data manipulation

Rahul Gandhi accused the government of tampering with voter data, citing Maharashtra as an example. He claimed that between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, voter rolls increased disproportionately, equivalent to the size of Himachal Pradesh’s electorate. "Magically, new voters appeared in BJP-dominated constituencies," he alleged, calling for electronic access to the Lok Sabha voter list to ensure transparency.

Raising concerns over Chinese incursions

Bringing up national security, Rahul Gandhi questioned the government's stance on Chinese incursions. "The Prime Minister denied any Chinese intrusion, but our Army does not agree with him," he stated. He expressed concern over conflicting statements between India’s military leadership and the government, suggesting a lack of clarity in dealing with border security.

BJP accused of undermining Patel and Ambedkar’s values

Rahul Gandhi criticised the ruling party for allegedly disregarding the values of leaders like Sardar Patel and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. "You bow before Buddha, but reject his principles. You talk about Patel and Ambedkar, but their core ideals are being destroyed," he said, warning that violence and hatred could lead the country toward ruin.

Dismisses President’s speech as ‘Boring’

Taking a jibe at the President’s address, Rahul Gandhi described it as dull and uninspiring. "It felt like an old grocery list. I couldn’t even sit through the entire speech," he remarked, suggesting that a Presidential speech should be more engaging and impactful rather than repetitive and unremarkable.
