'Handing over my son to you': Sonia Gandhi's emotional pitch for Rahul Gandhi at Raebareli
PTC News Desk: Sonia Gandhi on Friday made an emotional appeal for Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, telling the crowd that she is handing over her son to them.
Rahul Gandhi is running for Raebareli, a seat previously held by his mother Sonia Gandhi, 77, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
"I taught Rahul and Priyanka the same lessons that Indira Gandhi and the people of Raebareli taught me. Respect everyone, protect the weak, and fight injustice for people's rights. Don't be afraid, because your roots of struggle and traditions run deep," said Gandhi.
She also thanked the people of Raebareli for electing her. She was first elected as Raebareli's MP in 2004.
"I am happy to have the opportunity to rejoin you after such a long absence. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My head is bowed in reverence to you. You have given me the opportunity to be an MP for 20 years. This is my most valuable asset," she added.
Rahul Gandhi will face BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh.
"Raebareli is my family, and Amethi is my home. Not only do I have tender memories of this place, but our family's roots have been connected to this soil for the past 100 years. This relationship, as sacred as Mother Ganga began with the farmers' movement of Awadh and Raebareli and continues to this day," said Sonia Gandhi in Hindi.
