Supriya Shrinate senied Lok Sabha ticket from Maharajganj amid controversy over Kangana Ranaut

PTC News Desk: The Congress party's eighth list of 14 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections sparked controversy as Supriya Shrinate, Congress spokesperson, faced denial of a Lok Sabha ticket from Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Instead, Virendra Chaudhary has been fielded by the Congress for the upcoming polls, replacing Shrinate, who had previously contested unsuccessfully in the 2019 general elections.

Shrinate became embroiled in a social media storm following a now-deleted post targeting BJP's Mandi candidate Kangana Ranaut. The derogatory post garnered widespread attention, leading to scrutiny and backlash against Shrinate.

In response to the controversy, Shrinate asserted that her social media accounts may have been compromised, leading to the unauthorised post. She promptly deleted the post upon discovery, emphasising her commitment to refrain from making personal and indecent comments, especially towards women.

The Election Commission also took note of the incident, issuing a show-cause notice to Shrinate for her offensive remarks against Kangana Ranaut. The Commission deemed her comments as violative of the Model Code of Conduct and urged political parties to uphold dignity during election campaigning. Shrinate has been asked to provide her response by March 29, 2024.
