"TMC attacking monks to appease vote bank": PM Modi criticises Mamata Banerjee over Ramakrishna Mission controversy

PTC News Desk: On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came under fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi once more for her comments criticising the Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

Modi accused the state's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime of "letting loose a reign of terror on monks just to appease vote bank politics" during his Lok Sabha election rally in Jhargram, West Bengal.

The prime minister declared, "TMC goons dare to attack the ashram of Ramakrishna Mission."

"It is shameful that the TMC has taken up the onus of hurting the religious faith of Hindus in Bengal," Modi continued his attack. Threatening the monks of Bharat Sevashram Ashram and the Ramakrishna Mission is the Chief Minister. The Ramakrishna Mission ashram in Jalpaiguri was attacked on Sunday night. Bengali people will not put up with this."

The prime minister claimed that Mamata Banerjee's recent remarks against the monks of Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission were meant to "appease" the TMC's support base.

"Although Bharat Sevashram Sangha, ISKCON, and Ramakrishna Mission are renowned for their integrity and selflessness, the Chief Minister of Bengal is openly threatening them today. The goal of this is to placate the voting base. TMC thugs dare to attack Ramkrishna Mission while the CM herself is threatening the monks," he stated.

What was said by Mamata?

Mamata Banerjee claimed at an election rally that certain monks from the Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission were carrying out BJP-mandated tasks.

She had claimed that certain Bharat Sevashram Sangha monks had forbade a TMC agent from sitting at a polling place in Baharampur, Murshidabad, and that other monks of Ramakrishna Mission had urged followers in Asansol to vote in favor of the BJP.

Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission both denied the accusations, claiming that their primary concern is serving society.
