Sri Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar: Amitabh Bachchan yet to be cleared of allegations linked to 1984 anti-Sikh riots
PTC Web Desk: Sri Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj paid homage to the martyrs of the November 1984 anti-Sikh genocide, while strongly condemning the continued denial of justice to the victims and survivors.
He said even after four decades, Sikhs had not received justice for the mass killings that took place in 1984. “Most of the culprits behind the massacre remain unpunished, and several senior Congress leaders accused of inciting the violence continue to live freely, while the affected Sikh families still await justice. This remains a dark blot on India’s democratic image,” he said.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj said India’s justice system fails minorities, particularly Sikhs, whenever issues of communal violence arise. “When it comes to delivering justice to minorities, especially Sikhs, the government and its agencies change their standards, leading to discrimination,” he added.
Referring to recent controversies surrounding actor Diljit Dosanjh touching the feet of actor and former Congress leader Amitabh Bachchan, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj said while Amitabh Bachchan had denied the allegations through a letter sent to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, eyewitness testimonies, such as that of Manjeet Singh Saini, were never properly investigated by the government or investigating agencies. “Hence, in the Sikh collective consciousness, the actor remains unexonerated,” he noted.
He urged the Sikh community and Sikh artists to avoid associating with individuals or Congress leaders allegedly involved in the 1984 genocide, warning that such acts would “rub salt on the wounds of the community.”
Declaring that the 1984 Sikh genocide remains unforgettable, unforgivable, and intolerable, the Jathedar reminded that despite facing several massacres in history, the Sikh community continues to thrive globally. “Today, Sikhs are spreading the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji across the world, excelling through their honesty and hard work. Those who tried to erase Sikh identity were mistaken—Sikhs will continue to rise with the blessings of the Guru,” he said.
