350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji: Nagar Kirtan reaches Sri Anandpur Sahib with floral welcome
PTC News Desk: The historic Nagar Kirtan, held to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, reached Anandpur Sahib on Sunday morning after a spiritually uplifting journey that began in Srinagar on November 19. Punjab Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Harbhajan Singh ETO welcomed the procession with flowers.
Starting from Gurdwara Patshahi Chhevin in Srinagar, the Nagar Kirtan travelled through Jammu, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Garhshankar and Jajj Chowk before reaching Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of the Khalsa. Devotees showed deep respect as the Palki Sahib carrying Guru Granth Sahib, led by the Panj Pyare and the Nishan Sahib, arrived.
The ministers honoured the Panj Pyare and the Panj Nishaanchi with siropas. After offering prayers at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, they placed the Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib.
The Nagar Kirtan saw huge community support, including from Sant Baba Sewa Singh of Rampur Khera and many Sikh organisations. The Bhai Bachittar Singh Gatka Akhara from Hathur performed Gatka throughout the 544-km route under the leadership of Harpreet Singh.
People welcomed the Nagar Kirtan with great excitement at every stop. In one area, the crowd was so large that the procession was delayed by almost 15 hours between Rampur Khera and Hoshiarpur. Langars were organised in towns and villages along the way. Supported by the Sikh community and the Punjab Government, the Nagar Kirtan was started from Srinagar to honour the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur, known as ‘Hind Di Chadar’. Its arrival at Anandpur Sahib marked an emotional and historic moment for the Sikh community.
