AAP leader attacked in Ludhiana; car set on fire, gunshots fired over 'work against drug menace'

PTC News Desk: A group of assailants on late Saturday night stormed the house of Sukhwinder Singh Shinda, President of a Truck Union in village Lehra and Gill Halka coordinator of AAP’s Transport Wing. The attackers allegedly set fire to his Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire by dousing it with petrol. When Shinda rushed out after hearing the commotion, the miscreants fired at least six shots at him, but he narrowly escaped. The attackers then fled, and Shinda immediately informed the police.

Based on Shinda’s complaint, Dehlon police registered a case. He alleged that the attack was carried out by associates of a drug peddler he had helped get arrested under the Punjab government’s Yudh Nashey Virudh campaign.

Recounting the incident, Shinda said the attack took place at 10:58 pm while he was at home with his family. Hearing noises from the verandah, he went outside and saw his car in flames, with three men present—one of them armed. They opened fire at him before fleeing when he raised an alarm. With help from his family, he managed to extinguish the blaze.

CCTV footage revealed five men were involved, arriving in a white car. While two stayed inside the vehicle, three jumped over the gate to carry out the assault. Shinda identified the armed attacker as Kuldeep Singh alias Kuldeep Manak, a known drug peddler who allegedly targeted him out of revenge after the arrest of an associate.

He added that police have already apprehended one accused, while an official statement from authorities is awaited.
