Amritsar: Six held in massive crackdown on pharma nexus, large quantity of Tramadol tablets recovered

PTC News Desk: The Amritsar police arrested six individuals in a major crackdown on an illegal pharmaceutical opioid supply network. Amongst the arrested include chemists, distributors, and the plant head of a pharmaceutical company and large quantity of Tramadol tablets have also been seized. 


The investigation began with a discovery of 35 Tramadol tablets in Amritsar leading the police to fundamental source that is the manufacturing plant in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. 

“Based on sequential disclosures and raids, 6 arrests were made including chemists, distributors, and the plant head of Lucent Biotech Ltd,” said the DGP.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the raids at Haridwar led to the confiscation of over 70,000 Tramadol tablets, Rs 7.65 lakh in drug money and 325 kg of raw Tramadol material.

The recovered strips of tablets bore the “Government Supply Only – Not for Sale" stamp, which raises serious concerns over the illegal pharma nexus. The police said that several pharmaceutical units were found in violation of norms and were sealed. Currently their records are also under scrutiny.
