Domestic dispute turns fatal: Retired Army man shoots son dead, dies by suicide in Ludhiana

PTC News Desk: A domestic dispute in Ludhiana's New Aggar Nagar turned fatal after a retired Army man allegedly shot dead his son before he died by suicide after consuming poison.

The deceased have been identified as Surinder Singh, a retired Army sergeant, and his son Gursharan Singh alias Ginni.

According to the family members, the father-son duo was involved in a long-standing feud over Surinder's involvement with another woman and his wish to remarry after the death of his wife around five years ago.

However, Gursharan opposed the move, leading to frequent arguments between the two over the past three years.

Police said the first shot was fired inside the house, after which Gursharan ran out onto the street to save himself. Surinder allegedly chased him and opened fire again. One bullet brushed Gursharan’s arm, making him fall to the ground. Surinder then allegedly fired another shot, killing him on the spot.

After the shooting, Surinder reportedly went back home and consumed poison (sulphas). Hearing the gunshots, neighbours informed the police and took both men to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Sources said Gursharan was unmarried and worked as a driver. He is survived by his two sisters — Pushpinder Kaur, who lives in England, and Harpreet Kaur, who lives in Canada. Both have been informed about the incident.

Police teams and forensic experts reached the scene soon after receiving information. The licensed weapon used in the incident has been seized, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Police are also investigating whether there were any other reasons behind the incident.
