PTC Web Desk: Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jharkhand and Odisha over the next five days.

Himachal Pradesh will witness heatwave conditions from June 12 to 14, Uttarakhand from June 11 to 14; Rajasthan on June 12 and 13 and Madhya Pradesh from June 12 to 14, according to the IMD bulletin on Monday.

The maximum temperature in Delhi rose for the second day in a row on Monday, despite a heatwave that engulfed several areas, with the weather department projecting temperatures of 45°C in a few days.

Safdarjung, Delhi's basic weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 43.4°C, which is 3.5 degrees above normal, up from 42.5°C on Sunday and 41.1°C on Saturday.

Maximum temperatures in Northwest and Central India are expected to rise by 2-3°C over this time period. Several heat waves hit East, Northwest, and Peninsular India in April and May.

Heatwaves are also expected in regions of Gangetic West Bengal until June 13. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions were predicted in isolated pockets and sections of Bihar from June 10 to 12. They most likely remained in portions of Uttar Pradesh until June 14.

According to IMD director general M Mohapatra, the new heatwave is predicted to be caused mostly by an anticyclone, which is causing hot air to subside over northwest India.
