Amritsar, October 11: The triumphant Indian men's hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, was given a warm and enthusiastic reception at the Amritsar airport on Wednesday. The reception was a celebration of their remarkable gold medal victory in the men's hockey event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou,China.

The Amritsar airport witnessed a large crowd of well-wishers who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the victorious Indian hockey players and extend their heartfelt welcome. This grand reception was a reflection of the nation's pride and joy in the team's Asian Games 2023 success.




Expressing his gratitude, Harmanpreet Singh, the captain of the Indian men's hockey team, acknowledged the unwavering support of his family, which played a pivotal role in his journey to clinching the gold medal at the Asian Games. "My family supported me a lot during the journey. I want to thank them," Harmanpreet Singh expressed when asked about his family's contribution.

India secured the gold medal at the 19th Asian Games with a resounding 5-1 victory over Japan in the men's hockey final. The match took place at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China. This victory not only earned the Indian men's hockey team the coveted gold but also secured them a place in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The goals for the Indian hockey team in the gold medal match were scored by Manpreet Singh (25'), Harmanpreet Singh (32, 59''), Amit Rohidas (36'), and Abhishek (48'). Japan's only goal came from Tanaka Seren (51').

This remarkable achievement marked India's fourth gold medal in men's hockey at the Asian Games, with previous victories in 1966, 1988 (Bangkok), and 2014 (Incheon). India's journey to the gold included topping Pool A by winning all their group games and triumphing over the Republic of Korea 5-3 in the semi-finals.

At the 19th Asian Games, India concluded its campaign in fourth place on the medal table, achieving its best-ever medal tally with 107 medals.
