PTC Web Desk:  In the shocking case involving the murder of a 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar’s West constituency at Paras Estate, the Punjab State Women Commission has intensified scrutiny of the police investigation. A day after issuing a notice to the Police Commissioner seeking an explanation via email, Raj Lalli Gill, chairperson of the Punjab State Commission For Women (PSCW), visited the victim’s family along with the State Child Commissioner to offer condolences and assess the situation on ground.

Speaking to the media, she said the commission was gathering all facts related to the case and assured the family that no guilty person would be spared. She questioned why the police failed to recover the girl’s body from a four-marla house earlier, raising concerns over alleged negligence. Raj Lalli also stated she would personally meet Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur to review all evidence collected so far.

She added that the forensic team had already gathered crucial evidence and the post-mortem report had been submitted. The victim’s family has demanded that the case be transferred to a fast-track court. The women panel chief assured them that both the women commission and child commission would support the family until justice is delivered.

The commission said the prime accused, Harvinder Singh “Rimpa,” has a questionable criminal background, which would be further investigated. Raj Lalli said she would also raise concerns regarding ASI Mangat Ram’s suspension, questioning whether suspension was adequate or if a criminal case should be registered against him.

Meanwhile, Punjab Child Rights Commission Chairman Kanwardeep Singh strongly condemned the incident, calling it not just a failure of the police but of society as a whole. “Our society should have progressed, but we seem to be moving backward,” he said, urging citizens to be more vigilant about children’s safety.

He highlighted that the case falls under the POCSO Act and noted that the accused is currently under a nine-day police remand, ensuring that a thorough investigation will be carried out. Commenting on ASI Mangat Ram’s suspension, Singh said the appropriate action will be taken after a detailed inquiry.
