Punjab law and order collapses: Kabaddi player, relative of Jagraon MLA, shot dead by unidentified assailants
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped Manuke village in Jagraon after a 32-year-old kabaddi player, Gagandeep Singh, was shot dead by unidentified assailants late Sunday night. The victim was a relative of Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke.
According to information, Gagandeep Singh was attacked and shot multiple times in the fields near the village. After the shooting, a group of youths allegedly went to his house, boasting loudly that they had killed him and that his body was lying in the fields. Villagers and family members rushed to the spot, lifted blood-soaked Gagandeep and took him to the Civil Hospital in Jagraon, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke reached the Civil Hospital and strongly directed the police to arrest the accused at the earliest. She stated that no form of lawlessness or gang-related violence would be tolerated in her constituency and assured the family that justice would be delivered.
Family members of the deceased, including his wife and brother, alleged that the murder was the result of an old dispute. They said Gagandeep, who actively played kabaddi, often intervened when some youths from the village harassed another kabaddi player, Eakam Singh. Due to this, the accused allegedly nursed a grudge and carried out the murder. Gagandeep is survived by his wife and three minor children—two daughters and a son.
Meanwhile, SHO Kuldeep Kumar said a firing incident has been reported from Manuke village and that further action will be taken based on the statements of the family members. He added that the police are investigating the matter and efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused.
