Big relief for residents of Kharar as Punjab & Haryana HC lifts construction ban
PTC Web Desk: In a major relief to the residents of Kharar in Mohali, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has lifted the ban on construction activities in the region. The order, which had earlier halted all construction works in Kharar, was revoked on Friday, providing much-needed respite to homeowners and developers.
The matter had stemmed from a delay in the notification of the new Kharar Master Plan, which had triggered the initial construction ban. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier directed the Punjab Government to notify the new Master Plan within a year.
The Municipal Council of Kharar, under the instructions of the Chief Justice’s Bench, informed the court that a year’s extension had been granted for the Master Plan notification. The council then requested the court to revoke the construction ban, arguing that the delay in the plan's notification should not hinder ongoing construction activities. The council also sought permission for the release of salaries for officials whose pay had been attached by the court earlier.
Acknowledging the progress in the case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today accepted the plea and lifted the order halting construction in Kharar, thus offering significant relief to local residents who had been impacted by the restrictions.
