Liquor trader in Chandigarh gets extortion threat; Bambiha Gang name triggers police alert

PTC Web Desk: Chandigarh has once again come under the spotlight for rising underworld activity after a prominent liquor trader received an extortion threat demanding crores of rupees. The threat was allegedly made through a WhatsApp call, with the caller claiming links to the Bambiha gang.

According to sources, the businessman operates multiple liquor vends across Chandigarh and is originally from Abohar in Punjab. During the call, the caller demanded a ransom running into crores and reportedly issued a direct threat to the trader’s life if the demand was not met.

Following the threat, the trader immediately approached the Chandigarh Police, who have since initiated an investigation. Technical teams are tracing the origin of the WhatsApp call, while intelligence units have been put on high alert to assess any larger criminal network involvement.

Preliminary inputs suggest the possible involvement of Balwinder Singh alias Dony Bal, a known aide of the Bambiha gang. Dony Bal has a long criminal history, with nearly 39 cases registered against him in and around Chandigarh, including alleged involvement in planning high-profile violent crimes.

Until now, most extortion and threat cases reported in Chandigarh were linked to the names of notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. The emergence of the Bambiha gang in such cases has raised fresh concerns, indicating a possible escalation in rivalry among criminal gangs attempting to establish dominance in the city.

The Chandigarh Police have intensified surveillance and increased patrolling in sensitive areas, particularly around commercial hubs.

Senior police officials stated that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of traders and prevent any potential gang-related violence. The case is under active investigation, and further details are awaited.
