Migrant labourers shooting: Two held in Punjab's Moga after brief exchange of fire

PTC News Desk: Two suspects allegedly linked to the shooting of migrant labourers in Punjab’s Moga district were arrested on Sunday after an exchange of fire with police near Ghalkalan village. According to officials, acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted Akashdeep Singh and Jobanpreet Singh, who were travelling on a motorcycle. When asked to stop, the duo allegedly opened fire in an attempt to flee.

Police returned fire in self-defence, during which one of the accused sustained injuries. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, two individuals had purportedly posted a video on social media claiming responsibility. In the clip, they used offensive language and made derogatory remarks about migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Moga Superintendent of Police Balkrishna Singla said authorities are probing possible links between the arrested men and those who claimed responsibility online.

On Saturday, police had also taken two people into custody in connection with the case, including a sarpanch from Ferozepur district.
