PTC Web Desk: Sukhwinder Kaur (50), a resident of Punjab’s Ferozepur district, near the Pakistan border, who along with her husband and son, was hit by a Pakistani drone that crashed into their home on the night of May 9 has succumbed to her injuries.

The drone, allegedly launched during retaliatory fire by Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, fell on the residence of Lakhwinder Singh in the village of Ferozepur. The drone reportedly pierced the roof and landed on a vehicle parked outside the house, causing a massive fire.

As a result, Sukhwinder Kaur suffered 100% burns and could not be saved despite efforts by doctors at DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Her husband, Lakhwinder Singh (55), sustained approximately 70% burn injuries and remains in critical condition. Their 24-year-old son, Jaswant Singh, who was also injured in the blaze, is currently out of danger.

The explosion and fire also engulfed livestock present in the courtyard. Neighbours quickly called an ambulance, and the injured were rushed to the local Civil Hospital.

On May 10, Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian had visited the victims at the hospital and announced that the Punjab Government would bear the entire cost of the treatment. In light of the severity of the injuries, the couple was then referred to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana for specialised care. However, the woman today succumbed to the injuries.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has expressed deep grief over the tragic death of Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of village Khai Pheme Ki in Ferozepur district, who succumbed to injuries sustained from debris of a crashed drone. The Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh for the bereaved family.
