PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Government has officially declared a public holiday on Tuesday, April 29, to mark f Lord Parshuram Jayanti. All schools, colleges, government offices, and various commercial establishments across the state will remain closed.

Special events, including religious programmes and community feasts (langar), will be organised at several locations throughout the city to honour the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram. Recognised as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Parshuram's birth anniversary is traditionally celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh.

It is noteworthy that the Tritiya Tithi falls on May 10 this year. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Parshuram emerged during the Pradosh Kaal, and thus this period holds particular significance for devotees. Additionally, Lord Parshuram is revered as one of the eight Chiranjeevis (immortal beings) believed to still exist on Earth.

The occasion also coincides with Akshaya Tritiya, a day considered highly auspicious for purchasing gold and performing religious ceremonies. Many communities also choose Akshaya Tritiya to solemnise marriages and other auspicious events, given the day’s association with prosperity and good fortune.
