Punjab: AAP leader shoots dead sarpanch’s husband over some dispute in Abohar
PTC Web Desk: A dispute over a drainage issue turned deadly when Shankar Jalap, the husband of a sarpanch, was shot dead during a panchayat meeting allegedly by Manoj Kumar, block president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), at Kallarkheda village on Wednesday.
Shankar Jalap was reportedly engaged in a heated argument with Manoj Kumar over a drainage dispute. When Shankar demanded related documents, Kumar went inside his house under the pretext of retrieving them. Instead, he returned with a pistol and shot Jalap in the forehead.
Shankar was immediately rushed to a hospital in Sri Ganganagar, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The incident has left the village in mourning. Shankar Jalap, father of two, was also preparing for a family wedding on the same day. His nephew, Vipin Kumar, was set to get married in the evening, turning what was supposed to be a joyous occasion into one of grief.
Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Shivraj Goyal visited the grieving family and criticised the deteriorating law and order in Punjab under AAP's leadership. "If even the ruling party’s sarpanch is not safe, what about the common citizens?" he questioned.
