Punjab Cabinet imposes 90 paise cess per litre on petrol, diesel

Chandigarh, February 3: The Punjab Cabinet, which met under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday, imposed a cess of 90 paise per litre on petrol and diesel. Since the AAP came to power in the state, this is the first tax imposed on the public.

The Punjab Cabinet also approved the much-awaited Industrial Policy. It comes amid the Investors Summit proposed by the Punjab Government on February 23 and 24. Besides, the Punjab Government is aiming to attract industrial investment worth Rs 5 lakh crore through the roll out of this policy.


Besides, mandi fee on basmati shelling units has been waived to promote basmati shelling in the state.

On the other hand, the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022 mentions about providing employment generation subsidy to units that employ domiciles of Punjab. Those who will employ Punjabis will be given Rs 36,000 per annum per employee for five years, and Rs 48,000 per annum per employee for five years in case the employee is a woman, or belongs to the reserved categories.

The Cabinet also approved allowing open mining at 18 sites in the state. People can extract sand at Rs 5.50 per cubic feet by taking a tractor-trailer. The cost of transportation is over and above this rate. 
The electric vehicle policy has also been approved.
