Punjab: Cop-turned-drug kingpin Jagdish Bhola walks out of jail after 12 years
PTC News Desk: Sacked Punjab Police deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and Arjuna Award-winning wrestler Jagdish Bhola walked out from Bathinda Central Jail on Sunday after almost 12 years of incarceration.
He was granted bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court on May 21.
Bhola was convicted in Punjab's largest drug trafficking cases, which involved a Rs 700 crore synthetic narcotics racket.
Once a celebrated wrestler and recipient of the Arjuna Award, he was dismissed from the police force in 2012 after recovery of poppy husk. He was arrested by Punjab Police in November 2013 in connection with the ₹700-crore drug racket. The ED arrested him in 2014 and filed six chargesheets till 2017.
The bail order comes along with certain conditions. Bhola was required to furnish a Rs 5 lakh bond and surrender his passport. Additionally, he must complete a community service project — planting 100 trees within 15 days of his release.
