PTC Web Desk: The southwest monsoon is now retreating from Punjab and is expected to withdraw completely by September 20. On its way out, the system will pass through central parts of the state, bringing light showers and a noticeable change in weather conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cloudy skies and light drizzle are expected in many areas on September 16. Further, on September 17 and 18, parts of the state may experience light to moderate rainfall.

Districts most likely to see rainfall include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali. In addition, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala may also receive light showers or drizzle.

Temperature updates

Ludhiana recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6°C.

Pathankot registered a minimum of 23.6°C.

Amritsar recorded a maximum of 34.8°C, with 651.9 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon.

Jalandhar reported a maximum of 33°C and 902.7 mm of seasonal rainfall.

Ludhiana has received 798.2 mm of rainfall till date.

The IMD has stated that the upcoming rainfall will lead to a slight drop in temperatures, bringing relief from the persistent humid and warm conditions. No warning of heavy rain or storms has been issued for the state during this period.

Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures for crop protection, considering the rainfall predictions. They have been urged to ensure necessary arrangements in their fields to prevent any potential damage.

With rainfall in the hilly regions reducing, the water levels of Punjab’s rivers are steadily declining, and conditions are gradually returning to normal. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s cleanliness campaign continues across villages in the state.
