Punjab: Pakistani intruder shot dead along Tarn Taran border

Chandigarh, August 11: In a pre-dawn operation on Friday, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel thwarted an infiltration attempt across the India-Pakistan border by fatally shooting an intruder from Pakistan in Tarn Taran district of Punjab.

BSF reported detecting suspicious movements near the border security fence along the international border early in the morning. The troops quickly assumed positions in response. As the intruders continued to approach the border fence, the BSF personnel opened fire on them.

According to a statement by the BSF, "Alert BSF Troops on August 11 observed suspicious movement of a Pakistani miscreant/intruder ahead of the border fencing in the area falling near the bordering village of Thekalan in Tarn Taran district. The intruder was challenged by the forces, but he disregarded the warning and continued advancing."

In the interest of self-defense and to prevent any further risks, the BSF troops engaged and neutralized the intruder on the spot, eliminating the potential threat.

This incident follows recent instances where BSF apprehended two unidentified intruders from Pakistan who had crossed into Indian territory. Additionally, in May of the same month, the BSF arrested a Pakistani national near the International Border in Punjab and confiscated three packets of suspected contraband items.

In the year 2022, the BSF troops stationed on the Punjab Frontier intercepted 22 drones sent from across the boundary, eliminated two Pakistani intruders, and seized a substantial 316 kilograms of illicit drugs. The BSF's heightened vigilance and alertness played a pivotal role in these successes.

A previous statement from the BSF highlighted, "The troops of the Punjab Frontier have maintained an extremely high level of alertness and vigil. Resultantly, BSF has successfully detected and captured 22 drones and seized 316.988 kgs of heroin, 67 weapons, 850 rounds and killed two Pakistani intruders and apprehended 23 Pakistan nationals in different incidents."
