Punjab: Pastor Bajinder Singh booked in sexual harrassment case, NCW seeks arrest
PTC News Desk: A case of sexual harassment, mental torture and intimidation has been registered against Punjab Pastor Bajinder Singh of Glory and Wisdom Church.
The woman said the Jalandhar-based pastor, who addresses himself as "Prophet Bajinder", sent her inappropriate messages, and threatened her and her family to stop them from taking action against him.
Jalandhar district's ACP Babandeep Singh confirmed the woman came along with her mother, brother and husband to record her statement. Police said a case has been registered against him under sections 354 A (sexual harassment), 354 D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, National Commission For Women (NCW) has taken suo moto congisance of the case and has demanded stringent action against the accused while seeking his arrest.
In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) NCW posted, "Under the direction of Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, NCW has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on Pastor Bajinder Singh, booked for sexual harassment in Jalandhar, Punjab. The Commission has urged swift action under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including his arrest and protection for the victim. ATR & FIR copy to be submitted within 3 days."
Who is Bajinder Singh ?
Bajinder Singh, originally from a Hindu Jat family in Yamunanagar, Haryana, embraced Christianity around 15 years ago while incarcerated in connection with a murder case.
He attracts thousands of people to his gatherings, where he claims to perform miracle healings.
Notably this is not the first time that he has been surrounded by controversies. He has also been jailed for around a decade in a murder case, where he reportedly came into contact with a pastor and became drawn to Christianity.
